Underwater inspection

Our experienced diver inspectors and inspection engineers regularly carry out surveys approved by all major classification societies including in-water damage assessment and surveys. We understand the challenges involved with this type of work and believe a comprehensive knowledge of ship construction, marine structures, corrosion, paint coatings and marine fouling, along with numerous other details are necessary to be able to produce a meaningful, accurate and useful client report.

We are able to provide staff to act as a client’s representative or on a consultancy basis and continue to enjoy a far-reaching reputation for developing solutions to the problems faced within the commercial marine industry.

We believe there is no substitute for experience.

Our equipment and services are available for underwater survey and inspection includes:

  • Closed circuit color television with divers voiceover recording facility
  • Digital still photography
  • NDT including Ultra Sonics Magnetic particle inspection equipment
  • Corrosion potential readings and analysis
  • Rubert comparison gauge propeller roughness readings

Underwater Hull Cleaning

(JMS) has been cleaning ships underwater for more than 20 years and during this time we have built up a good reputation for reliability with owners and management companies worldwide.

(JMS) has the only permanently based hull cleaning station in Aqaba- Jordan, with our own diving support/work boats & barge. The water conditions here favor all types of in-water ship husbandry and maintenance including hull cleaning.

Underwater Propeller polishing

PROP POLISHER’S high speed achieves Rupert Scale “A” finish on a 7 meter propeller in approximately 4 hrs. or less

Propeller polishing is an operation (JMS) is increasingly asked to carry out in today’s fuel-efficiency conscious climate. Careful monitoring of ship performance has shown that a power saving of 10 – 20% can be achieved following effective propeller cleaning and polishing. After underwater polishing, bunker consumption savings of 3 – 8% can realistically be expected.

(JMS) Propeller Polishers system not only removes marine fouling and vastly reduces surface roughness but it successfully polishes with no loss of metal. The “Proppolisher” system no.1 employs a high-speed hydraulic rotary machine with a specially designed underwater head and flexible abrasive polishing pads. The “Proppolisher” system no.2 employs a high-speed water powered rotary machine with special silicon carbide brush. It is specifically manufactured for its purpose and, being flexible and positively buoyant, the pads adapt exceptionally to the varying contours and geometry of the propeller blades.

The polishing operation is conducted using the (Rubert Comparator Gauge) as a standard to assess and report on propeller blade surface condition, before and after polishing.

Usually In water propeller polishing produces a better finish than the same operation carried out in the dry because water naturally lubricates the propeller surface and provides access for the diver without the requirement for staging. The polishing head is continually water-cooled and the diver has no need to exert pressure on the machine because the rotation creates vortex suction. This means the pad polishes evenly and produces no scouring.
